The predecessor of the Affiliated Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine was the "Zhejiang Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital" established in 1951. The founder and first dean were Professor Li Jinhua, a renowned pediatric expert and founder of pediatric medicine in China. In May 2019, the hospital was officially approved by the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Children's Health and Disease and the National Children's Regional Medical Center as a national key specialized unit in pediatric science. The hospital undertakes the tasks of pediatric medicine, scientific research, teaching, child health, and emergency response to sudden public health events throughout the province.
